This means that both pillars are connected together in a ‘U’ shape by reinforced concrete, which is then embedded deep into the ground. Conduits for electricity, intercom, lighting and water run through the enmeshed footing. This method ensures that the pillars remain parallel and do not fall out of alignment and therefore the gates remain flush in the long term.

We often take calls from clients throughout Costa del Sol needing urgent repair of their gates and pillars which fall out of alignment as they are built using inferior methods to the one described above. Repairs can be costly and when the structural integrity of the pillar are undermined, there is no other solution but to build a new pillar system. Too often the original builder has not understood the technicalities and the stresses that gated pillars are put under over a period of time. Sometimes pillars are built they where not intended to have heavy gates attached. A frequent issue is rain water running down the driveway that is unable to find an outlet and undermines the pillars, resulting in the pillars listing as the subsoil gives way under the erosion and weight of the structure.
